Gisela Petersen Obituary
Gisela Petersen Jul. 19, 1931 - Mar. 17, 2013 Resident of San Leandro Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Gisela passed away suddenly on March 17, 2013. She was 81 years young. Born and raised in Hannover, Germany, she married in 1954 and immigrated to America in 1957, settling in San Leandro in 1960. Gisela belonged to several German singing and dancing clubs over the years. She loved parties and was always a gracious hostess. Gisela loved camping ? learning to water ski in her 40s and cross-country skiing in her 50s. She was widowed in 1980 and remarried in 1982. Gisela enjoyed traveling extensively around the world, making friends wherever she went. Her vibrant energy, and kind and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Gisela was preceded in death by her first husband, Heinz Zunker; her second husband, Walter Petersen; and her sister, Irmchen Maxe of Germany. She is survived by her children, Gabriele Howard (Greg), Ralph Zunker (Monika), Marion De Sousa (George), Loretta Parsons (Steve) and Michael Petersen; grandchildren, Jessica, Nicholas, Ashley, Matthew and Joseph; great-grandchildren, Amber, Jesse, Nicholas Jr. and Charity; and her sister, Helga Stechbarth of Germany. Gisela lived the motto of live, love and laugh to the fullest. Guests are invited to share their happy memories at a celebration of her life on Sun., April 14, at the Oakland Nature Friends Center, 3115 Butters Dr. (off Joaquin Miller Road), Oakland starting at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the .
