Gladys Splithoff Obituary

Gladys Bonnell McKnight Splithoff January 8, 1909 - December 8, 2004 Passed away on December 8, 2004, in Walnut Creek. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Clarence Splithoff M.D., who passed away in 1991. Together they resided in Oakland, Piedmont and Alamo, California, for 60 years. Mrs. Splithoff was born in DuBois, Pa., in 1909. Following graduation from Bronson Methodist Nursing School of Grand Rapids, Mich., she sailed on the Lurline to Honolulu, Hawaii, and worked at the Honolulu Tuberculosis Sanitarium for several years. She married Clarence Splithoff, M.D., in 1937 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Sherril Haynes of Houston, Texas; her son, Alan Splithoff of Tracy, California; brother, Gordon McKnight of Benton Harbor, Michigan; son-in-law, Richard Haynes, M.D., of Houston, Texas; granddaughters, Llisa Wren of Pleasanton, California, Michelle Splithoff of Danville, California, and Kathleen Puglia, M.D., of Salt Lake City, Utah; and grandson, Stephen Haynes of San Francisco, California. She was to have experienced her first great-grandchild in February 2005. She was known to all as "Das," a nickname bestowed upon her by granddaughters Llisa and Michelle. She will be remembered as the kind, loving wife, mother and grandmother that she was. She leaves wonderful memories of summers at Lake Tahoe, and the experiences her entire family cherished together for over 50 summers. A private family service will be held with entombment at Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland, California, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Clarence. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may send memorial gifts to the Shriner's Hospital of Houston, 6977 Main Street, Houston, TX 77030. Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel (925) 934-5400
