Greg Griggs Obituary
Greg Griggs Resident of Fremont, CA On June 25th, at the age of 70, Greg Griggs passed away with his loving family gathered around him. Although he lived six more amazing years after losing a lung to cancer, his body grew tired and he knew it was time to join his Heavenly father. Greg was born in Helena, Montana on Sept. 15th, 1941. He met the love of his life, Jeanie Mussman and the two were wed. They were married for 53 years. After serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corp, moved his family to Fremont where they have lived for over 40 years. Greg and his brother-in-law, Gil Hohn bought Shanklins Body Shop in 1970 . Gil eventually retired and Greg continued to teach his children and nephews a trade and good work ethic. Greg knew how to fix the unfixable, make beautiful the damaged, put together the broken. And while body and fender work was his business, it was the people he worked to repair that mattered most to him. Mission Blvd attracts a lot of unique people, often the homeless, jobless or in many ways broken. Greg was there to give them dignity and words of encouragement and yesa few bucks. It was and still is a true family business, with his son Curt purchasing the shop after Greg retired. Greg rarely owned a new vehicle, instead relishing in the challenge of making a discarded car road worthy once again. It was his collection of restored classics that gave him a sense of pride. He was "that guy" with the red 1963 Ford Galexy convertible and souped up1940 Ford Delux sedan. He was a man with a heart of gold. Rarely a person with this much compassion walks this earth. He loved life, loved to dance, loved meeting strangers as well as re-uniting with old friends and loved his family. Greg is preceded in death by his mother, Goldie Griggs. He is survived by his wife, Jeanie, son Curtis Griggs, Karen Griggs and Tami Griggs Junier of Turlock. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Ryan, Glen, Tim, Greg, Jacob, Rachel and one great grandson, Holden. He also leaves behind his sister, Rosemary Cook, Glenda Hohn, Fern Staton,, Dennis Griggs, Brenda Griggs and Bryan Griggs. His is also survived by his 94 year-old father, Glenn Griggs and a huge circle of nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Friday, June 29th from 5-9 p.m. at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. On Saturday, June 30th, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ LSD located at 810 Walnut Ave. in Fremont.
