Harold Heady Obituary

Harold F. Heady Former Berkeley Resident With heavy hearts our father, grandfather, uncle, and friend Harold F. Heady passed away at the age of 95 on April 28th, 2011 in La Grande, Oregon. He was born in Buhl, Idaho on March 29th, 1916. He overcame some obstacles like the early deaths of his parents and putting himself through high school. He received his B.A. in Forestry/ Range Management from the University of Idaho in 1938. He went on to earn his Phd from the university of Nebraska in 1949. He also had teaching stints at Montana State, Texas A&M, and from 1951-1984 from Cal Berkeley. He resided in his Berkeley home until he moved to La Grande, Or in March 2005. He set up residency at Grand Ronde retirement home, where he enjoyed playing cribbage, poker, good food and the many 2-6 hour bus rides to take in the Blue Mountains or a local elk farm. The best part of the home was the friends he made the last six years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was always trying to balance nature with today's lifestyle. Author of many publications and awards. The Guggenhiem and 2 Fulbrights being the highlight. He spent many years living in Africa, Australia, Russia, China and Saudi Arabia. He was preceded in death by Eleanor (Butler) in 1979 and 2nd wife Ruth (Atkinson) in 2001. He had a girlfriend "Biette" Fell of Virginia since 2005 until health and age made a long distance romance difficult. He leaves behind his daughter Carol DeMaria of Longview, WA and son Kent Heady and wife Celia of Dale, OR; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. No services per his request. There will be a remembrance ceremony for him this summer at the Family reunion. If anyone would like to have something read aloud at the ceremony please contact Carol or Kent.
