Leona Marie Harmon passed away peacefully in her Oakland home. Leona, the second oldest of ten children, was born in Orange, Texas to Elmira and Reverend Alfonse Charles Turner. Leona graduated from Richmond High School. She went to work for the U.S. Postal Service retiring in 1966. After that she worked for the Berkeley Unified School System as a teacher's aide for 15 years.
Leona was an avid golfer who played well into her 70's. She was also a member of Princess Zorah Chapter #70, Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and most recently a member of Ashlar Chapter #47 OES. She was a member of Downs Memorial United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
Leona was a very religious and thoughtful person who always opened her heart, her home and her wallet when others were in need. She is survived by her two sons, Harry Walker (Lee), David Harmon (Angela); daughter-in-law, Carolyn Walker; sister, Donna Turner; sister-in-law, Betty Turner; grandchildren, Michael (Jovan), Daniel (Denise), LaKisha (LeMarco), Ayesha, Jennifer, Rachel, Ashley; six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death is her son, Robert Walker, Jr.; sisters, Beatrice Hilburn and Zola Turner; brothers, Acie, Norman, Earl, Charles, Alan and Raymond.
