Ryan Joseph McDaniels
October 3rd, 1992 - August 7th, 2012
Alameda
Ryan was born in Oakland, CA and was a lifelong resident of Alameda and 2010 graduate of Alameda High School. Ryan departed this world suddenly amongst friends and family while playing in a water polo game. Deeply loved and treasured son of Tom and Teresa McDaniels, beloved Brother of Dennis (Vanessa) and Scott, cherished Grandson of Dorothy Mallia, Nephew of Mary Ann Flemming (Tom), Brenda Mallia (Rick Nereu), David Mallia (Margie), Bob McDaniels (Paulette), Sue Hann (Nigel) and Debbie Wheeler (Mike), Godparents Chris Saunders and Barbara McCullough, as well as numerous cousins and an extensive circle of friends. He was predeceased by Grandparents Ben Mallia and Bob and June McDaniels. Ryan loved water polo above all sports, competing on league winning teams for both water polo and swimming for Alameda High School. He swam competitively for over twelve years, with the Alameda Island Aquatics and later in high school with the Alameda Ala-Gators; as well as participating in the Lincoln Marching Band, Alameda Youth Soccer, Little League, and Boy Scouts while growing up. He loved spending time with his brothers and friends, the outdoors, music, playing various instruments, writing lyrics poems, history, science, good conversation and intense debates. He attended College of Alameda, worked for McDaniels Landscaping and recently enjoyed teaching young kids to swim. He is our baby and will live in our hearts forever. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 12th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at St Philip Neri Catholic Church followed by a 6:00 pm Vigil service. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 13th at 10:00 am at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
