Susie Turner Crockett Atwood age 99, two months short of her 100th birthday, passed away November 11, 2013 in Washington Utah. She was born in Logan, Utah to Hyrum and Susette Crockett on January 5, 1914. Sue was the fifth of seven children.
When Sue was six years old her Father became Secretary of the State of Utah and the family moved to Salt Lake City. Later they would move back to their farm in Richmond, Utah. Sue started college at Utah State when she was 16 majoring in business. She later transferred to the University of Utah where she graduated. It was there she met and married Albert Henry Atwood in the Logan Temple.
In 1940 they moved to Hayward, CA to be be near her brother's family where "Abe" taught at Hayward High School and Sue began working for her brother Dr. Cless Crockett. Sue and her sister-in-law Vera Crockett joined La Golondrina singing group where she participated in many performances for 25 years. Sue and Abe both loved to dance and joined a square dance group called the "Sparky's" after Floyd Sparks, owner of the Daily Review. They square danced every Friday night for 20 years. In 1950 Sue and Abe moved to Castro Valley and built a home on Heyer Ave. where they lived for 50 years. Sue also worked for the Daily Review and was assistant credit manager for four years at Skaggs Hardware store in Hayward. She later worked for Clyde Robin Seed Co. the company her husband started. She retired at the age of 75.
Sue was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many positions enjoying especially her service in the Oakland Temple. In 2001 Sue moved to the Baywood Retirement Center in Hayward, CA, and in 2008 she moved to Sterling Court in St. George, UT.
Sue is survived by her son Stephen (Jean) of Ivins, UT, and daughter Carla Sue Carpenter (Dan) of Abiline, TX, 10 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren with 2 on the way, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Albert Henry Atwood, parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and a great granddaughter.
The family wishes to thank her many family and friends who not only made her life a wonderful fun adventure but were also uplifted by her cheerful positive nature.
Special thanks go to her caregivers this past year, Ann, Carlos, and Victor who were absolutely amazing in their loving care.
