Thomas W. Glickman

Thomas W. Glickman Captain, U.S.N. Retired 3/20/29 - 8/3/10 Tom was born 3/20/29 in Oakland to Alec and Agnes Glickman and passed away on 8/3/10 in Norfolk, VA. He was a graduate of Fremont High in 1947 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. In 1957 at the rank of Chief Petty Officer Tom was commissioned an Ensign. In the following 30 years he served on many ships and in many countries, including combat tours in Korea and VietNam and retired in 1987 as a Captain. During his service he received 27 awards including the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars with V for Valor and two Purple Hearts. Upon retired he taught over 1,000 students in 55-Alive classes and was an active writer of Naval History. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia O'Flarety Glickman, daughter Cyndi Szurgot, (Chris) Son Ted Glickman (Pam) brother Jerry Glickman (Nancy) and two grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the Church of the Holy Apostles, 1593 Lynnhaven Pkwy, Virginia Beach, VA 23453. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
