Vernon M. Lisse, longtime resident of Oakland, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2013.
He was the son of Pete and Doris Lisse, Vern was born in Oakland on August 18, 1928. He attended Oakland Tech High School, where he was on the Track team. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Margaret, his sisters, Yvonne Dier, Dolores Lieurance, Anne Taylor, and Lucille Nordlander, his uncles, Mike, Nick, Frank, and Vlaho.
He is survived by his loving nephew, Mike Alexander, nieces, Jean Alexander, Joanne Shepherd, and Joan Nordlander.
Vern was an avid sports fan and a great card player. He spent many hours honing his skills at the Oaks and Key Clubs' card rooms. He loved all animals and would fill his pockets with peanuts to feed the squirrels on his morning walks to get the newspaper. His cats were his special companions.
There will be a private memorial service. Donations may be made at the East Bay SPCA.
