Neil A. Johnson
Resident of Fremont
Neil Johnson entered into rest February 14, 2014 in Fremont, CA. Born January 31, 1925 he was 89 years old. A native of Ludlow, PA., he became hooked on the idea of flying during a boyhood trip to the 75th anniversary of the Civil War Battle of Gettysburg. He "got his wings" November 1944, a little more than two years out of high school, and was assigned to pilot three-man Douglas A-20 Havoc attack bombers, which skimmed the ground on their strafing and bombing runs. After the war, Neil went to Upsala College in New Jersey, graduating with a chemistry degree. He also met his wife there. They were married 51 years.
He worked for the Crown Zellerbach paper company, San Leandro for 42 years, retiring as a technical sales manager. In 1960 the couple moved to the Glenmoor neighborhood in Fremont where he lived until his passing. Beloved father of Donna Lynn Johnson.
Neil connected to his Air Force Days saying "If it wouldn't have been for the service, I never would have gone to college in New Jersey, I never would have met my wife, and I never would have had my daughter. That's the key to my life right there."
