Mary Lou passed away on Wednesday due to complications caused by Alzheimer deceased.
Mary Lou was born in Bedford, Indiana and grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and worked at the Federal Reserve Bank before moving to Tacoma, Washington. While in Tacoma she worked at Weyerhaeuser and volunteered as a USO hostess. She met her future husband, Private First Class Arthur Kufeld, at Fort Lewis, and moved to San Lorenzo to raise a family. She enjoyed outings with grandchildren, travel, spending time with family and friends. She returned to work at age 42 and worked for 20 years before retiring. She could be found on monthly outings with Friendly Connections or at the weekly Aqua Fitness class at San Leandro Hospital pool.
Mary Lou is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Arthur: devoted children Richard, Robert, and David: loving daughters-in-law Melinda Flowers Kufeld and Carole MacKenzie: grandchildren, Jennifer and husband William Kerry, Kelly, Kyle, and Zachery Kufeld: Matthew and Megan Kufeld: great-grandchildren Ryan and Abigail Kerry: many beloved nieces and nephews. Her siblings Anne Rutland, James DeBevoise, Paulette and husband Doug Britt, also survive her.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service Saturday April 5, 2014 from 1:00 to 2:00pm at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 32992 Mission Blvd. Hayward CA 94544. Reception will be held at Robert and Melinda home in Fremont following the service.
