Glenn Coon Jr.
Dec. 28, 1937- April 12, 2014
Resident of Fremont
Glenn W. Coon Jr. passed away on Saturday April 12th, at his home in Fremont, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathryn Coon and his children and their spouse's; Daryl and Laura Coon of Pleasanton, Kevin and Lorrie Coon, of Fremont and Linda and Dennis Addison, of Fremont; his sister Candace Stevens, of Dexter, New York and sister-in-law and her family Elizabeth Brousseau, of El Doraldo Hills. He was a very proud grandfather to his six grandchildren Kyle, Heather, Trevor, Brandon, Cameron and Christopher. He is preceeded in death by his parents Glenn and Muriel Coon of Philadelphia, New York.
Glenn was born on December 28th, 1937 in Canastota, New York and grew up in Philadelphia, New York. At 18 he joined the Air Force which landed him at Hamilton Air Force Base in Marin County. He met Kathy on a blind date and never left California again. Glenn and Kathy moved to their current home 49 years ago, where they met the neighbors who would become their lifelong friends. The neighborhood is so special and unique that nobody has wanted to move and most of the original owners still reside there today. They raised their children, worked, welcomed grandchildren, and retired together. Glenn worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller for 47 years at the Fremont Facility.
Glenn was the original Scoutmaster of troop 447 in Fremont, mentoring many young men to become leaders, ten of whom reached the rank of Eagle Scout. Continuing his service in scouts, he went on to become the Woodbadge Course Director, Mission Peak District Chair and most recently the District Representative for his grandson's troop 111. Because of his service he was awarded the Silver Beaver award, the highest honor given to a volunteer.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a celebration of Glenn's life on Saturday April 19th at 11 AM at Berge Pappas Smith Chapel of the Angels. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Glenn to the San Francisco Bay Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Please send checks payable to Boy Scouts of America to Berge-Pappas-Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94538.
