Resident of San Leandro
Born December 22, 1937, in Oakland, CA, to M. John Gallagher and Martha Himberg Gallagher, Colleen passed away on June 5, 2014, at Carlton Plaza in San Leandro. Colleen graduated from Holy Names High School in Oakland in 1956 and lived all of her adult life in San Leandro, except for 1966-67 when she emigrated to Australia with her dear friend Mary Joyce. While residing in Sydney, she worked for Readers' Digest. Upon her return to California, she began a career working for Alameda County. She retired in 1998. An avid traveler, Colleen was visiting Egypt during the Six-Day War in June 1967. Her adventures included rafting the Colorado River and taking a mule trip tour of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. For more than 20 years, Colleen volunteered as a docent at the Dunsmuir Hellman Historic Estate in Oakland. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Gallagher Dunlap, nephew John Dunlap, nieces Margaret Dunlap and Anne Dunlap-Kahren (Mark), grandniece Julia Beauchemin and grandnephews Michael Beauchemin and William Kahren. Friends are invited to a Vigil Service at Santos-Robinson Mortuary, 160 Estudillo Ave, San Leandro, CA, on June 16 at 7 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be at St. Leander Church, 550 West Estudillo Ave, San Leandro, CA, on June 17 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in Colleen's memory to Holy Names High School, 4660 Harbord Dr, Oakland, CA 94618.
