Claudette Virginia Deshler, 81, peacefully passed away after a long struggle with cancer on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at her home in Hayward, CA. She was born on May 9, 1933 in Long Beach, California to Beatrice and Mathis Archie. In 1941 with her family, she moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina where she grew-up. She returned Long Beach, California as a young woman, working as a waitress. In 1961, she moved to Berkeley, California, where she bore and raised her daughter Michele as a single woman. In 1964 she married Robert L. Fredendall; resulting in the birth of their son Scott; the marriage ended in divorce in 1970. Shortly after, Claudette began her 12 year career as a police dispatcher for the Oakland Police Department, she was particularly known for her southern accent which was easily recognizable over the police radio, nicknaming her the "Southern Belle." In 1978 she married Peter C. Deshler; the marriage ended in divorce in 1995. In 1996 she began working at AMR as a 911 dispatcher where she worked until she retired in 2000. Claudette is survived by her daughter Michele and son Scott; grandchildren Alex, Tyler and Phoebe; her beloved cat Pookie. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, reading, dancing, traveling, and most of all spending time with her family and friends. Funeral service will be performed by her family at Lone Tree Cemetery, Hayward, CA on Wednesday August 6, 2014 at 2pm. Memorial Donations may be made in Claudette's name to the .
