Resident of Alameda Geraldine "Gerry" Pope passed away quietly on July 7, 2008 from complications following a stroke. Gerry was born in St. Louis, MO on June 25, 1931, she was the eldest of three daughters. In the early 1950s she met and married Airman LaRoye "Lee" Pope of Alameda, California. During the next two decades, she bore three daughters and enjoyed the opportunity to travel across the United States and Europe as an Air Force wife. In 1973, upon her husband's retirement from the Air Force, she moved with her family to Alameda and settled into the Pope family home. Gerry continued her love of visiting new places -- traveling all around California, Nevada, Hawaii and even back to Europe to visit the Marian Shrines. In the early 1900s Gerry retired after 15 years with the Naval Air Rework Facility in Alameda. Gerry was preceded in death by her parents: Emile and Zola Pesselato; sister Julie Imo and daughter Lynne Hopper. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, LaRoye Pope, her cousin: Ruth Cizmas, daughters: Vickie Lachney and Cathy McKim; grandchildren: Robert Lachney, Robert McKim, Brian McKim, Stacey McKim and Scott McKim; great granddaughter: Dahlia Lachney; nieces: Gina Piazza and Joanna Kunz; and sister; Mary Kunz. She will be extremely missed by her family and friends.
