Obituary Condolences

Mary Emily Moberg
May 29, 1927- Feb. 22, 2012
Resident of San Lorenzo
Mary was born on May 29, 1927, in Atwater, California, and went home to our Lord on February 22, 2012, at her San Lorenzo home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jermi Moberg and her son, David Miller. She is survived by her brothers Anthony Fagundes and John (Edie) Fagundes, her stepson Richard (Donna) Robertson, her foster children Harlan and Beth Ann Sperry, and many nieces and nephews: Wendy(Michael) Churukian, Raleigh Fagan, Cheryl (Mike) Miraglia, Michael (Beverly) Fagundes, Linda (Bill) Michels, Ann-Marie (John) Medina, David Fagundes and many grand nieces and nephews.
Mary was raised in Oakland, California, and spent most of her life in the Bay Area except for a twenty year break when her husband's work took them in 1972 to Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, then to Scituate, Massachusetts, then to Peoria, Illinois and then to St. Louis, Missouri, before settling home in San Lorenzo. She made friends wherever she went and has continued to keep in touch with them through the years.
She was a member of Council #89 of the SPRSI (Sociedade Portuguesa Rainha Santa Isabel) for over 50 years and served as the State Grand President in 1966-67. She founded several junior units within the organization and served on the Grand Board of Directors for many years. Mary lived the legacy of Queen St. Isabel by daily acts of charity and was a shining example of sociability and protection.
Mary also served the poor as a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and acted as secretary of the St. John's branch for several years. Always quick to lend a helping hand in her personal life as well, she readily opened her heart and home to family and friends in need.
A real travel enthusiast, Mary loved to visit other countries and because of her love of people found getting to know the culture the best part of the trip. Everyone enjoyed her many travel stories, which always included humorous moments and interesting characters.
Mary was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends - particularly those she could talk into playing Mexican train. She was a caring, loving woman who was a lot of fun to be around. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, neighbors and all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 28 from 5:00 - 8:00 at Grissom's Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd, San Lorenzo with a Vigil service at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be said on Wednesday, February 29, at 10:00 am at St. John's Catholic Church, 264 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo.
Donations may be sent in lieu of flowers to A Friendly Place, 2298 San Pablo Avenue, Oakland, Ca. 94612 or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul - St. John's, 264 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, Ca. 94580
