Hal died at Mills Peninsula Hospital in Milbrae, CA after a brief illness, on October 28, 2012.
He was born in Oakland and grew up in Berkeley, and graduated from Berkeley High. He served in the Air Force where he trained to be a cartographer. He worked for the US Geological Survey in Menlo Park, for 49 1/2 years. He also worked for the Fremont Unified School District as a Special Education Aide for 6 years.
Hal is survived by his wife of 53 years,Shelda; his children Suzanne, Bennett (Susan), and Robert. Grandchildren Sarah (Matt), Michael (Mary), Todd, JohnPaul. Great grandchildren Jenny, Joshua and Sarah. He is also survived by his brother Raymond Green.
Hal and Shelda have been foster parents for over 400 kids for Alameda County. He was very active in his church interpreting for the deaf, as well as helping the less fortunate for over 40 years.
In celebration of his life, there will be a memorial service/ice cream social on Friday, Nov 2, 2012 at 6:30p at Maloney Elementary School, 38700 Logan Drive, Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations of warm socks or scarves to be distributed by Centerville Free Dining Room.
