John Frank Caybut, 71, passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family. Born in Oakland, he was a longtime resident of Berkeley. John graduated from St. Mary's College High School in 1959 and joined the Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1967. John was employed by Union 76 as a Quality Control Specialist for 31 years. He was a president of the Baclayon Family Circle and a 2nd-generation member of Bohol Circle Inc.
Affectionately called Johnny as a boy and Papa John by his grandchildren, he was passionate about jazz, military history and his grandchildrens' athletics.
John was preceded in death by his siblings Virginia and Andrew. He is remembered and loved by his sister Bertha, wife Sabina, former wife Linda, six children and seven grandchildren.
All are invited, Visitation Viewing, Sunday, March 3rd, St Albert the Great, 1022 Holly St, Alameda, 5:00 - 8:30 PM, Vigil at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass, Monday, March 4th, 10:30 AM also at St Albert's. The family requests no flowers.
