Adrienne Lindsey Obituary
Adrienne (Auer) Lindsey Mar. 18, 1921 - Mar. 3, 2013 Resident Of San Leandro Adrienne passed away peacefully on Sunday, just 15 days short of her 92nd Birthday, at Willow Creek Alzheimer and Dementia Center in Castro Valley. She was born in Yonkers, New York to Charles and Lillian Auer. She moved across the country to California with her family at age nine. They traveled by car; her Mom, Dad and three of her siblings, the youngest only two weeks old. The three month journey West was filled with adventure. The majority of "roads" they had to travel on were the ruts left in the mud by the cars that had come before them. Once in California, her father accepted many jobs as a carpenter and builder in the Oakland and San Leandro communities. Mom always had stories to tell of the many homes in which her family lived. As was the case for many families at the time of the Great Depression, they moved wherever there were jobs available. As a teenager, Adrienne was an active member of The Juveniles Of Woodcraft, the youth group for The Woodsmen Of The World. She belonged to the San Leandro Chapter, "The Olive Twigs" that met in the Masonic Hall. She attended two schools in New York and six in California, graduating from San Leandro High School in 1939. Adrienne then attended business school, learning shorthand and stenography. She went to work for The Hartford Insurance Co. in Oakland, and later with Fidelity Insurance in San Francisco. Over the years, Adrienne was a very active member of her community, giving countless hours of volunteer service to organizations such as PTA where she received lifetime membership, San Leandro Music Chest (promoting music in the San Leandro Schools) Campfire Girls (serving as both leader and district chairman) San Leandro Living Arts League, San Leandro High School Reunion Committee for sixty years, and was awarded life membership in Job's Daughters, where she held both local and Statewide offices. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty six years, Walter Lindsey. They met while growing up in San Leandro and their two families were very close. They were married on September 23, 1944 at St Peter's Lutheran Church in San Leandro. Mom and Dad both were very supportive parents. They participated in, and encouraged their daughters in all that they pursued. The two of them built a lifetime of beautiful memories of shared experiences and friends. They were not only husband and wife, but best friends who were rarely apart from each other. It is a blessing that they are together again. Also preceding her in death are; her brothers Alvin "Buster" (Maxine) Auer, Alan (Hazel) Auer, and Albert Auer; her sisters Arline (Harold) Thomas, Adelaide (Glenn)Daniels, Aloha Auer and Meredith Auer; her brother in law Newt Willner, her niece, Arline Stockham, and her nephew, Bret Auer. She is survived by her daughters; Jeanette (Larry) Moyers, Barbara Lindsey, and Sue (Richard) Carson. Grandchildren; Scott (Rene) Moyers, Jennifer Moyers, Amy (Kurtis) Keala, LeeAnne (Paul) Jones, Erin Carson, Lindsey Carson and her fianc‚ Brett Parker, Bryan (April) Carson. Great Grandchildren; Marieke Moyers, McKenna Brown, Riley Brown, Aidan Brown, Ashley Keala, Allyson Keala and Tyler Keala. Her sisters Audrey Willner, Arlette (Bud) Morano and sister in law Gwynne Auer. Her nieces and nephews; Paul Thomas, Lois Thomas, Tim Daniels, Mark Willner, Darcy March, Bart Willner, Meredith Clark, Michelle Chauvin, Janine Callihan, Todd Morano, Kurt Morano, Trevor Auer, Monique Auer, Al Auer, Katherine Stockmyer and Tamara Simpson, and many great nieces and nephews.
