Resident of Alameda
Jane Elizabeth Baldi, 62, of Alameda, CA, passed away in her home surrounded by family on Tuesday 4/9/2013. For 5 years she fought a valiant battle against colon cancer. Preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, David Louis Baldi and mother Ellen Georgina Hogle, Jane is survived by her father Cdr. Harvey Broadbent Jr. of Oak Harbor Washington, step-mother Shirley Louise Broadbent, brother James Harvey Broadbent, sister Georgina Ann Olson, daughters Sara Denise Baldi and Hannah Louise Smith, son Kyle David Baldi and her four grandchildren, Antonio, Anicia, Hayden and Lily Jane. Jane Baldi was born in Memphis, Tennessee on 12/22/1950. She grew up moving throughout the United States until she settled in Alameda, CA in 1965. Jane graduated from Alameda High School in 1969, attended UC Berkeley, and continued on to receive a Masters in Education from Cal State Hayward. Jane was passionate about education, and spent 40 years working as a Teacher and Administrator. She taught at St. Barnabas Elementary, Edison Elementary and Paden Elementary schools in Alameda. She continued on in to administration and worked as the Director of Testing and Assessment for Alameda Unified School District, and Director of Curriculum for East Side Union High School District in San Jose, Ca. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting and traveling the world. Prior to her illness, she completed the 4 day climb of Machu-Picchu in Peru. Jane was actively involved in the community, and up until her death, she was a member of the Delta Zeta chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International; an organization for women educators. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Alameda at 6:00pm on Monday April 22, 2013. Committal will be Tuesday April 23, 2013 at 12:30 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward. The Baldi family wishes to thank family and friends for all their support and prayers through these tough times.
