Patricia May Tavenner, 77, Oakland, CA, Passed away peacefully Friday May 10, 2013 at Salem Lutheran Home surrounded by loving hearts and hands after a battle with lung and liver cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held 2 pm Sunday, May 26th, 2013 @ Salem Lutheran Home 2361 E. 29th St. Oakland, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Contributions to The Lions Club of San Leandro or to Oakland Fund for the Arts. Patricia was born March 22, 1935 in a farm house in Otsego, Michigan, to Ruth (Bainbridge) and Raymond Tavenner. Before moving to Oakland in 1958, she graduated with a B.A. from Michigan State University, Lansing, MI. Then M.F.A. from California College of Arts, San Francisco. She taught at the UofC Berkley Extension SF, California College of Arts and the SF Art Institute. Her professional artistic talent includes Silk Screens, Oil Painiting, Collage, Photography, Digital Prints and Mail Art. Her art has been exhibited in Europe, NYC, Los Angeles and the SF Bay area. She was best known as the "Mail Queen". She authored 2 books, "Four Years and More" and "Divine Inspiration: How to Release the Artist Within." Patricias brothers, Clifford and Roger, describe her as talented and congenial. And her sister-in-law, Clarice describes her as Artistic. Patricia was a person of many interests and passions, especially art. She had a large group of diverse friends with which to share them. She loved to dance, go to movies, and dress up in costumes. She had the best birthday parties ever! She lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and her eldest brother, Paul Tavenner. She is survived by her brother Clifford Tavenner of Independence, MO, Roger Tavenner of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, nieces Sherri, Sue, Anne and their families. Nephews Rocky and Tim and many cousins.
