John B. Taylor Feb. 21, 1930 - June 7, 2013 Resident of Oakland John Barton Taylor died on June 7, 2013 following a brief illness. Born Feb. 21, 1930, in Sparta, TN, he came to California in 1951 to join the Navy. In 1955 he married Thelma Taylor, a woman who already shared his name. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage before her death in 2009. John was a schoolteacher, an accountant, a business owner, a church leader, and above all, a calm, steady confidant, mentor, and friend. He is survived by two daughters, Kathlyn Taylor Gaubatz and Penny Turner; a sister, Mary Shaw, and a brother, Horace Taylor; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A sister, Dorothy Taylor, predeceased him. A Memorial Service will be held on Sat., June 22, at 2 pm, at Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church, 3534 Lakeshore Ave., Oakland. The family suggests the Samaritan Neighborhood Center, 534 - 22nd St., Oakland, CA 94612 for those wishing to make memorial donations.
