Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lyndell graduated from Pepperdine College in 1953, received his Master of Arts from La Verne College in 1967 and then went on to earn his Doctorate of Education from UCLA in 1971. While at Pepperdine, he was a championship debater-contending with teams from universities such as Georgetown and West Point-and ranked third among outstanding speakers in the 1953 National Debate tournament. For over 60 years, Lyndell served as a Gospel preacher for churches of Christ in Oregon, Arizona, various cities in Southern California (including Pomona and Palm Springs), and most recently churches in Redding and Dinuba. Besides teaching Bible classes and leading devotionals at Fremont Church of Christ, he was currently serving in his second term as president of the Residents Council at Alma Via Assisted Living and participating in their hymn sing, as well as leading their weekly sing-along. Lyndell was delighted to add his tenor whenever he heard voices lifted in song, especially in praise to God. Lyndell is survived by his children and their spouses Susan and Joseph King of Franklin, TN; Larry and Lori Cheeves of Union City, CA; and Donna and David Ladd of Waynesboro, VA; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
