George Stephen (Steve) Knowles, was called home on November 6, 2013 at the age of 64. He had been a resident of Oakland, CA for over 20 years and died after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. He was born on June 20, 1949 in Toronto, CA., and raised in Pleasant Hill, CA. He graduated from Milligan College in 1971 and pursued post-graduate studies at Humboldt State. He is survived by: his mother, Eunice Knowles; his wife, Maria Lopez-Knowles; his daughter, Francesca Miller; his brother, Jim Knowles (Liza) and sister, Karen March (Keith), as well as his beloved nieces - Natalie, Maya, Robin and Sarah. He was a Marketing executive at multiple high-tech companies, an avid astronomer and wine enthusiast, and most importantly, a beloved son, brother, husband and father. For all that knew Steve, he was a blessing. He lived with dignity, humility, and grace, and his passing has impacted an extensive group of family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace. A wake will be held at Oakmont Mortuary in Lafayette, CA on Friday, 11/8 at 7:00 PM. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes in Oakland, CA, on Saturday, 11/9 at 11:00 AM. Friends and family are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul, Alameda County, CA.
