Obituary Condolences

Edward C. Mayer, M.D. Jan. 16, 1920 - Nov. 14, 2013 Resident of Fremont He is survived by his loving wife, Alberta (Peppy) Mayer, his daughter. Kathleen Ann Weiss, his daughter, Jolie Arden Mayer-Smith and her husband, Roy Smith, his daughter, Candace Ellen Hallquist and her husband John Hallquist, and his grandson Nathan Hallquist and his wife Jane Hallquist. Dr. Mayer was a graduate of Stanford University and Stanford Medical School. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology and began practicing at the original Stanford Hospital in San Francisco. The family moved to Fremont in 1959 when Dr. Mayer then helped to open what was then called Washington Township Hospital. He practiced there for twenty-seven years and retired in 1986. He caringly administered anesthesia to thousands of Tri-city residents and will be fondly remembered by the many doctors and nurses that worked with him over the years. Doctor Ed served in the Army Medical Corp during World War II. He was a long time member of Alameda Masonic Lodge #167, The Scottish Rite, and Aahmes Shrine. He was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing and golf with his family and friends. At the family's request, service will be private.
