Kenneth D. LaRue Obituary
Kenneth D. LaRue June 29, 1930 - Nov. 21, 2013 Resident of Yorktown, IN Kenneth D. LaRue, Yorktown, 83, passed away Thurs. morning, Nov. 21, 2013, at his residence. He was born on June 29, 1930 in Goshen the son of Russell J. and Mildred (Strong) LaRue, graduated from Goshen High School, received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees, in Business and Education from Ball State University. He played on the only unbeaten and untied Ball State Football Team in 1949. He also served in US Air Force during the Korean War, and was a training instructor at Lackland Air Force Base. Mr. LaRue taught and coached football, track, and wrestling at Madison Heights High School from 1955 until 1959, coached football at Kansas State University from 1959 until 1966. Ken was Director of Conferences and Special Events at Ball State University from 1966 until 1969. He also scouted for the San Diego Chargers for several years. In 1969, he started as Business Manager for the Oakland Raiders, working for his beloved Raiders for the next twenty years (winning three super bowls). He was the Assistant General Manager for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when the NFL expanded to include new teams. After retirement from professional sports, he taught at Alexandria High School until he was 72, while thoroughly enjoying his students. His favorite pastimes were his grandchildren, whom he enjoyed being chauffeur for, and watching football and golf on TV. Surviving are his wife of forty-nine years, Frances Anne Jones LaRue; a daughter, Lynn LaRue Witty M.D. (Michael), Yorktown; four grandchildren, Grace and Grant Witty, Ryan Gibson (Shelley), and Tyler Gibson (Ingrid); his great-grandson, Ryan Gibson, Jr.; and a brother, James Russell LaRue (Carol), Goshen. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Gibson; his father, Russell J. LaRue; his mother and step-father, Mildred and Clem Eberhart; a sister, Janet Garringer; and a brother, Richard LaRue. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ball State University Foundation or Athletic Department, 2800 W.
