Herbert Charles Green April 8, 1916 - February 8, 2014 Resident of San Lorenzo Herbert C. Green peacefully passed away Feb. 8, 2014 in Castro Valley, CA, with his family by his side. A gregarious and charismatic man, he served in the Merchant Marines as a Boatswain during World War II, and afterward enjoyed a long, successful career as a salesperson. Herb was a natural leader who enjoyed helping others, inspiring his deep involvement in the Fruitvale Masonic Lodge for more than 62 years. An avid reader, patriot and sports fan, he will always be remembered for his quick wit, hearty laugh, decisive opinions and generous heart. He was preceded in death by his dear wife Betty Green, grandson Bruce McDonald and son-in-law Bob McDonald. He is survived by his four daughters: Bev McDonald of So. San Francisco, Linda Centoni of Livermore, Bobbie (Jay) Brackett of Copperopolis and Jackie Green of Hayward. He is also survived by his six nieces, three nephews, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services will be held Sat., March 8th at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars - Post 9601 c/o 18968 Patton Dr., Castro Valley, CA 94546.
