Ellen Farrand Obituary

Ellen Elizabeth Farrand, age 90, of Oscoda died on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw.
She was born on Aug. 10, 1923 to the late Walter Herron and Harriet Virginia Farnham. Ellen graduated from Saginaw High School in 1941 and attended St. Mary's Nursing School in Saginaw and became a registered nurse. She also went to the University of Chicago to get a degree for teaching nursing.
Ellen then served as an Army nurse in World War II as a lieutenant in the Philippines. After the war she returned to Saginaw to continue her work as a nurse. She worked for a few doctors locally and later at Saginaw General Hospital for several years and was the head nurse at the OB/GYN ward. All together, she kept her nursing license for 60 years, as after retirement she volunteered for hospice until the age of 80.
Ellen and William retired from Saginaw in 1980 and moved to their home outside of Hale. In 1990, they moved to Indian Lake and in 2000 they moved to Oscoda.
Ellen married William Russell Farrand in 1947, he preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Robert Farrand and James Farrand; and daughters-in-law, Lynn Michalak and Jodi McGowan. Ellen also had two granddaughters, Brooke Farrand and Jamie Farrand; and one great grandson, Owen Kelsey.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 29 at 11 a.m. (instate at 10 a.m.) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda. Rev. Charles Donajkowski will officiate and interment will follow in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery in Tawas City. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. (Rosary at 7 p.m.) at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda. Condolences may be offered at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
