Arthur B. Murphy, age 91, of Tawas City, a former resident of Goodrich, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Iosco Medical Care Facility in Tawas Township.
He was born the son of Peter and Bessie (nee Brandt) Murphy in Goodrich on Aug. 11, 1921.
Art was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II from 1942 to 1945 and was a former member of the VFW in East Tawas and the F.O.E. Tawas Aerie No. 2508. When he met the love of his life, Bette Bellant, she advised him she would not date anyone who couldn't dance, and he quickly learned how. They married on Nov. 20, 1941 and she preceded him in death in 1997.
Art was raised on his family farm in Goodrich where he learned to enjoy farming and the simple things in life. He could often be found tinkering in his workshop, making something for his family. He was also an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. Art also loved working in his yard and gardening.
He is survived by his loving children, Kenneth (Judy) Murphy of Tawas City, Ruth Anne (Ron) Wolski of Burton, Kathleen (Ed) Anschuetz of Tawas City and Randy (Kathy) Murphy of Tawas City. He is also survived by his sister, Ila Pringle; 11 grandchildren, Kenneth Murphy II, Rhonda Murphy, Brian (Kelly) Murphy, Renee (Jason) Gatica, Rejean Wolski, Jeremy Simonoff, Elizabeth Prunty, Luke and Jeremy Anschuetz and Kelly and Ben Murphy; and nine great grandchildren, Matthew Gatica, Brenna Murphy, Cole Guoan, Andrew Gatica, Jack Guoan, Dylan Donaghy, Allie Anschuetz, Sean Donaghy and Austin Anschuetz. Art was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter, Christian Murphy in 1962; his infant grandson, Shawn Murphy in 1983; his son, Dale Murphy in 1999; and his brother, Lloyd Murphy.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 10 at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. Interment followed in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in East Tawas. Condolences may be made at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
