Breznau, Marian M.  
Marian M. Breznau, age 93, of Oscoda, died on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at home, peacefully, with her family by her side. Marian was born on Sept. 6, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late John and Matilda Stead (nee Juen). Marian grew up in the Detroit area and married Hubert Breznau on May 20, 1950 in River Rouge. They raised eight children together. After retirement, they owned and operated the Tamarack Trail Resort in Greenbush from 1980-1990. Prior to that Marian worked as an executive secretary for the Detroit Free Press, American Red Cross and the war department during World War II. Marian spent her life devoted to her family and others. Marian was beloved by her family, her warmth, kindness and concern always let them know how much she loved them. Her positive, can do attitude was an inspiration to all that knew her. Marian was a devout Catholic, and volunteered for several Lutheran organizations, FISH, Helping Hands, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, her churches and anything where the cause was to help others. She was an avid reader, enjoyed shopping and was a loyal blood donor. Marian is survived by seven children; Sharon (Joseph) Czapiewski of Interlochen, Robert (Karyn) Breznau of Buena Vista, Colo., Kenneth (Belinda) Breznau of Anaheim, Calif., Kathleen Breznau of Fenton, Karen (Carl) Roesler of Linden, Mary Ann Vaughn of Oscoda and John (Barbara) Breznau of Fountain Valley, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and sister, Joan Korowin of Trenton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert in 2005; daughter, Victoria Yadlosky; sister, Norma Miner; and her brothers, Kenneth and John Stead. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 25 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton. Place of interment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Brookins, Dorothy Jane  
Dorothy Jane Brookins, age 91, of Tawas City, former resident of National City, died on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Lakeview Manor Nursing Home in Tawas City. She was born the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Grabowski) Sowulewski on Feb. 14, 1925 in Saginaw. Dorothy graduated from St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Saginaw. After graduation, she married Charles Brookins Sr. on Nov. 28, 1944 at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Saginaw. Dorothy worked for many years and retired as a computer operator at Sysco Foods. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas. She enjoyed reading and playing bingo. Dorothy is survived by her children, Charles (Lois) Brookins Jr., Cathy (Peter) Hancheck and Richard (Lynn) Brookins; grandchildren, Jeff (Angela), Julie (Mark), Jen (Jeff), Matt (Brita), Melinda (Chad), Anthony, James (Melanie), Randy and Andy; and great grandchildren, Travis, Shane, Audrey, Evelyn, Carleigh, Cooper, Danica, Mike, Phoenix, Bishop and Isaac. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Bus" Brookins Sr.; and her brother and sister, Joseph Sowulewski and Arlene Harvey. Per Dorothy's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday, July 25 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
