Gartland, Donald Michael  
Donald Michael Gartland, age 92, of East Tawas and St. Petersburg, Fla., died April 8, 2015. Don married Patricia McGovern, his high school sweetheart, in 1945 and they celebrated their 66th anniversary before her death in 2010. Don served in the Navy as a fighter pilot during World War II and as a naval fighter instructor after the war. He was a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by six children, Don Jr. (Mary) of Fenton, Teri Miller of Fenton, John (Shirley) of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mary Ellen (Norm) Banfield of Seminole, Fla., Kevin (Sandy) of Clio and Joe (Kerry) of Traverse City; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret (Dick) Daly; brothers-in-law, Bob (Donna) McGovern, Tom (Doris) Skinner and Al Macciomei; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 21 at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church, Fenton. Burial followed in New Calvary Cemetery, Flint. Share memories at

Geisler, Larraine V. "Sammy"  
Larraine "Sammy" V. Geisler, age 86, of Tawas City passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family early Thursday morning, April 9, 2015. Born in Detroit on July 16, 1928, she was the daughter of Peter and Rose (Guidotte) Verardi. Formerly a longtime resident of Brighton, Larraine has resided in Tawas City for the past three years. Larraine "Sammy" had owned Sammy's Sail Inn in Brighton for many years, was a former member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Brighton and was currently a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Tawas City. It was Larraine's wish to be remembered by her quote, "My family means everything in the world to me." She was the devoted and loving mother of Deborah (John) Wilson of Tawas City, Roberta (Ernest) Mecham of Howell and Frances Geisler III of Commerce; proud and adoring grandmother to seven grandchildren, Angela, Regina, Frankie IV, Ernie III, Alaina, Dustin and John III; 12 great-grandchildren; and beloved sister of the late Lillian Frazzini, the late Robert Verardi, Melvin Verardi, Carol Garbacik, the late Peter Verardi and Roger Verardi. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at MacDonald's Funeral Home, Howell (517-546-2800). A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held Friday, April 17 at 10:30 a.m. (instate 9:30 a.m.) at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 2201 S. Old US 23, Brighton.
