Carl York, age 85, of National City, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital.
Carl was born Nov. 26, 1927 in Flint to Paul and Cora (Corbitt) York. He served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
. Carl was a lifetime member of Chevrolet VFW
Post No. 3087 in Flint and a member of the Tawas Bay Eagles Lodge No. 2588 in Tawas City. He retired from Complete Auto Transit in December 1988.
He loved bowling, being outdoors, cutting wood and playing horseshoes. Carl spent many years racing at Dixie Speedway and Auto City Speedway having a very successful racing career and winning many races. In 1963, he won the track championship at Auto City Speedway. Carl was also captain in the 9-ball pool league at the Tawas Eagles.
Surviving are his wife, Ann; children, Judy Trawick, David York, Sharon (Ken) Krumm, Dean York, Robin Green and Deanna (Marcos) Bento; 20 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and good friends, Deb Scherzer, Debbie Gubbins, Dennis Sigafus, Becki Emry, Dennis Curtis and the Rulo family; his dogs, Dixie and Carlie; and many lifelong friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Tawas Bay Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the
