Carolyn O. Wood, age 82, a resident of Oscoda since 1972, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at her home where she lived with her daughter.
She was born in DePeyster, N.Y. on Jan. 7, 1931 to the late James and Mildred O'Brien (nee Kirby). Carolyn earned her master's degree from the University of Michigan
in elementary education. She taught in school districts in Pickford, Flint, West Virginia and Oscoda. Carolyn was a member of the Greenbush Community Church and she enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and spending time outdoors.
Carolyn is survived by her seven children, James Wood of Brevard, N.C., Ronald Wood of Tawas City, Steven (Ashley) Wood of Oscoda, Thomas (Linda) Wood of East Lansing, Mary (Edward) Meltz of Oscoda, Nancy (David) Earnest of Oscoda and Judith (Gene) Leveille of Oscoda; 19 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Carmetta Bouchard of Annapolis, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer A. Wood in 1997; and brother, Robert O'Brien.
The family received friends on Sunday, Jan. 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. and Monday from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda. Rev. A.C.
