Daniel Robert Teare, age 86, of East Tawas passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Chelsea Retirement Community in Chelsea.
His beloved wife of 64 years, Joyce K. Teare, preceded him in death in 2011. Surviving family members include three children, Holly Teare of Chelsea, Daniel B. (Patricia) Teare of Campbell Hall, N.Y. and Amy Teare (John DeWitt) of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Stefanie, Danielle, Nathan, Jeremy, Nicholas and Jonathan; and five great grandchildren: Kaylee, Ally, Julianna, Mariah and Deanna.
Dan was born the son of Daniel J. and Ada (nee Bain) Teare in Oak Park, Ill. He served in the Army
before graduating from Northwestern University
in Evanston, Ill. with a master's degree in music.
Dan and Joyce lived many years in Flint, where Dan taught instrumental music at Zimmerman Junior High School for most of his 32 years of teaching. Dan played clarinet in the Flint Symphony and the Motor City Concert Band. He played clarinet, flute and saxophone with the Musical Tent shows in Clio, the Brahm Ward Orchestra and the Chesaning Showboat Music Festival. He served as associate conductor of the Flint Youth Symphony and gave private clarinet lessons as well.
