David R. Holmes

David R. Holmes, age 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2013 with his great nephew, Mike Brown, by his side.
Dave was born on June 30, 1930 in Wilber Township to the late Roy and Golda (Brussel) Holmes. Dave honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War in Germany. Dave was a lifetime member of VFW and American Legion.
He was a member of the DAV, Eagles, and also a member of the Moose Lodge, where he received the honor of State of Michigan "Moose of the Year" award in 2005. Dave was employed by U.S. Gypsum Company and was maintenance man for most of Wilber Township.
Dave is survived by one brother, Herbert and wife Geraldine Holmes; and one sister-in-law, Margie Holmes; along with many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; a dear friend, Evelyn Taylor; one brother, Andy; two sisters, Viola Purtee and Rosetta Brown; and one brother-in-law, Jim Brown. Cremation has taken place with burial in the Wilber Township Cemetery. No funeral services were held, per Dave's wishes.
Dave looked forward to going to Canada each year for a camping expedition while hunting and fishing for a couple weeks.
