Dean Edwin Sellman of Oscoda, formerly of Brighton, passed away peacefully at the Iosco County Medical Care Facility in Tawas City, age 93.
Dean was born on July 6, 1919 in Grand Rapids to Raymond and Edna (nee Smith ) Sellman. After high school graduation, Dean entered into the United States Army
where he proudly served during World War II
in the European Campaign bravely delivering mail to the front lines in combat. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 27, 1945 as a Technician 5.
After his military service, Dean took over the Ratz Family Hardware in downtown Brighton. He owned and operated the hardware store for over 30 years. Those who knew Dean will always remember his love and passion for golf. He found relaxation in reading and he enjoyed the outdoors while walking or riding his tricycle.
Dean was a strong Christian man who always belonged to a good Christian church. He was an outgoing man who truly enjoyed conversation and meeting new friends. Dean will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Helen Sellman of Oscoda; three children, James Sellman of Pittsburgh, Pa., Patricia (Robert) Colmenaris of Half Moon Bay, Calif. and Thomas (Louise) Silver of Oscoda; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Van Ornum of Batavia, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dean was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy and Todd Silver; and a brother-in-law, Alden Van Ornum.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service with military honors will take place on Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m. at Marr Bible Church in Howell with Pastor Stan Szelkowski officiating. A burial of his cremated remains will be in Fairniew Cemetery in Brighton. An on line guest registry is available at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
