Harriet Catherine Ellwein

Harriet Catherine Ellwein of Oscoda went to Heaven on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013.
She was a resident of Oscoda for over 50 years after spending her impressionable childhood years in Grand Marais. She was a mother and grandmother.
Harriet graduated from Oscoda High School in 1952 and married Milton Ellwein in May, 1958. She served on the AuSable Parks and Recreation and Beautification Committees, Citizens Advisory on Wurtsmith Contamination, Hope St. John's Vestry and was chairperson for Memorial of the Great Fire of 1911.
Harriet is survived by her children, Beth Whitehead (Dan), Karl Ellwein, Janet Ellwein and Amy Beard (Chuck); by her grandchildren, Jenelle Trader (Wayne), Lyndsey Burgett, Tim Absher (Tiffani), Charles Beard IV and Daniel Beard; and great-grandchildren, Alexander Burgett, Kailynn Trader and Aria Absher. She is also survived by her brothers, Albert Grasser (Jovita) and Don Grasser; her sister, Patricia Grasser (Sharon); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; an infant daughter, Kristin Margaret; a sister, Carolyn; and her parents, Albert and Elsie Grasser.
Harriet's life and love was celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Hope St. John's Parish with the Father John MacDonald presiding and she was laid to rest in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Oscoda. She asked that memorial contributions be made to St. John's Parish, P.O. Box 338, Oscoda, MI 48750 or to Burt Township School, P.O. Box 338, Grand Marais, MI 49839.
