Max Elwood Mowery of Lapeer, passed away peacefully at Saginaw St. Mary's Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, age 77.
Max was born in Elnora, Ind. on April 19, 1936 to Carlos and Geneva (Hastings) Mowery. His family later moved to Michigan and he graduated from Davison High School, Class of 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army
and he proudly served our country from 1954 to 1956.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, Max married his best friend, Joyce Marlynn Lawrence, in Flint on June 22, 1956. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage. Max was employed as a machinist at Chevy in The Hole in Flint from 1954 until his retirement in 1989.
Max was a very outgoing person who enjoyed people and the beauty of the outdoors. He was an amateur chef, U.S. traveler, a gardener, woodworker, orchard owner, Canadian fisherman and Wyoming hunter. Max will be greatly missed by his family, neighbors and countless friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Mowery; two children, Mark (Beth) Mowery of Owosso and Kristie (Gary) Rapp of East Tawas; four grandchildren, Mark Mowery of Whitmore Lake, Sarah Mowery of Caledonia, Megan (Paul) Rapp-Frye of Tecumseh and Katie Rapp of Belleville; one brother, Tom (Helen) Mowery of Lapeer; and many dear friends. Max was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Geneva Mowery.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a burial of his cremated remains will take place at a later date in Dawn Memorial Cemetery in Lapeer. An online guest registry is available at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
