Robert James Spence

Robert James Spence, "Uncle Bob," age 69, of Tawas City, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 4, 2014 in Petoskey.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Dr. Robert and Gladys Spence of Pigeon. He is survived by his daughter, Amy (Kim) Amesbury of Rockford; two grandchildren, Jacob and Ryder Amesbury; his sister, Deann (Duane) Walters of Tawas City; niece Tracy (Paul) Stevelinck of East Tawas and their three children, Tyler, Karlie and Konor; nephew, James Walters of Gaylord; niece, Lisa (John) Schmidt of Frankenmuth and their two daughters, Rachel and Lilly; niece, Tricia (Patrick) Woods of Williamston and their daughter, Tillie Margaret; special friends the Pinkertons, Andrew, Stephen, Thomas and Catherine; and a host of caring friends.
Bob was born and raised in Pigeon. He graduated from Ferris State University and has since been a proud owner and partner of Tawas Hardware Do-It Best of Tawas City for the past 43 years. He also was a partner and owner of the Oscoda Do-It Best Hardware for 12 years. Back in the day, Bob and Duane founded the "Down Rigger Fishing Tournament" and for many years, competed as a team annually.
Bob will always be remembered for his passion for the outdoors. He loved duck hunting, deer hunting and looking for morel mushrooms in the spring.
Bob was most happy being out at his camp. He loved to take Jeep rides, play on the tractors and riding the four wheelers. He had a magical personality about him where he could make everyone around smile and feel good. His amazing sense of humor made people laugh and could lighten stress at the hardware store. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and his family will welcome friends at Buresh Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. for fellowship and stories. The funeral service will be celebrated Monday at noon at Buresh Funeral Home, 416 Whittemore St., Tawas City, with Reverend Kenneth Tousley officiating. Friends are welcome to meet the family at the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
