Waldo H. Gordon of Hale, passed away Jan. 30, 2014 at 86 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Hale; and children, Melanie (Gordon) Stevens of Tennessee, Jeffrey Gordon of Whitemore, Tony (Tonya) Gordon of Glennie, Kathy (Mark) Smith of South Branch and Jana (Ron) Vanspoor of Essexville. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren along with siblings, Anna (Cal) Peterson, Patricia Tucholski, Jane Schmidt, Hazel (Donald) Meske and Roger (Joyce) Gordon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Waldo and Anna Gordon; one sister, Marjorie Thomas; and a brother, Keith Gordon.
Walt married the love of his life, Arlene Greanya from Omer. They started Gordon's Bait Shop at the AuSable River on M-65. Gordon's Bait Wholesale was born on the shores of Lake Huron. Walt spent 70 years in the wholesale and retail bait business. Walt was considered a pioneer in the wholesale bait business in Michigan. If you have fished in Michigan waters in the last 70 years, he has supplied your bait. He was the "best" bait man in Michigan.
We are celebrating the life of a great man, we have all loved. He has taught us all fishing and hunting across this great country, he was one of the last real tough guys. A celebration of life memorial service for family and friends will be held in May at Tawas Point, Lake Huron. A private cremation has taken place. Arrangements were handled by the Hale Chapel of Buresh Funeral Home, www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
