William W. Alward

William W. Alward of Hale passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital at 90 years of age.
Mr. Alward married Helen (nee Bauer) on Oct. 5, 1944, in Romeo. He was a member of Hale 1st United Methodist Church. Bill was co-owner of Alward's Market in Washington, Mich., the former owner of Rollways Resort and had been the assistant fire chief for the Washington Fire Department for more than 25 years. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen; his children, Nancy (Larry) Molloy and Robert (Kathy) Alward; grandchildren, Shawn (Deb) Molloy, Colleen (Matt) Brinker, Brian (Laura) Molloy and Robert D. (Stacy) Alward. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty Bock and Gerald (Myrtle Ann) Alward; one sister-in-law, Shirley Alward; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Harriet (nee Rowley) Alward; and siblings, Marquerite Bromley, Kathleen Napper, Shirley Schmitt, Arla Robb, Joann Anger and Walter Alward.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 14, at Hale 1st United Methodist Church, 201 W. Main St. Interment was in Esmond-Evergreen Cemetery, the Rev. David K. Stewart Sr. officiating.
