Byron English went home to Jesus on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 64 years, Evelyn, his four children and one grandson.
Byron was born in Flint on June 9, 1926. He graduated from Flint Tech, turned 18 and enlisted is the U.S. Navy all on June 9, 1944.
He married Evelyn on Oct. 15, 1949. They have four children, Dallas (Pam) English of Fowlerville, Mike (Sharon) English of Albuquerque, N.M., Ann Owens of Mt. Pleasant and Peggy English of Oscoda. Additionally, By and Evie have seven grandchildren living throughout the United States Kathryn, Eric, Nick, Emily, Sarah, Amanda and Mat. They were blessed with six great grandchildren.
Byron attended General Motors Institute and was employed by Buick Motor Division as an industrial engineer for 35 years. He lived and raised his family in Frankenmuth. Byron lived a life of service to his community and friends with his loving wife. Evelyn.
While in Frankenmuth Byron served on the school board, City Recreation Committee, Lions Club and was president of the Frankenmuth Athletic Association. Upon retiring, he and Evie moved to Oscoda and started the "Miss Evie" charter fishing business. He was an active member of the Lake Huron Sport Fishing Association and past commodore of the Oscoda Yacht Club. He spent many hours planting and babysitting fish to support sport fishing in Lake Huron. He was a member of the Charter Boat Association, VFW and American Legion.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post in Oscoda. Those wanting to make memorial donations may consider The American Legion, Oscoda.
