Evelena D. "'Pudge'" Waynee

Evelena D. "Pudge" Waynee, age 76, of Hale peacefully entered eternal life on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014.
She was born Sept. 17, 1937 to George and Viva Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law, James and Goldie Waynee; her husband, Edwin J. Waynee; her sister, Doris Warner; brother-in-law, Ralph Warner; sister-in-law, Cheryl Sawyer; her brother-in-law, Robert Squires; her daughter, Patsy Brown; her son-in-law, Duane Short; her grandsons, Jacob Short and Tim Brown; her great grandson, Joey Short; and her nephew, James Squires. Pudge is survived by her children, Deborah Short, Dawn Muringer, Tammy (John) Shiells, Albert (Lois) Waynee, Craig (Marlene) Waynee and Steven Waynee. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Squires; and brothers, John (Rosie) Sawyer and Dave Sawyer. She has 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pudge was very active with the DAV, VFW and the American Legion. She was a life member and past president of Glen Staley, Post 422. She also volunteered many years for bingo and did volunteer work at the VA hospitals. She was a life member of Ducks Unlimited.
Together with her husband, they made many financial contributions for children's events involving the veterans, especially the children's Easter egg hunt. They made many financial contributions to their community and supported Shriner's, St Jude and the Paralyzed Veterans. On Veteran's Day she and her husband would go to the school to share the meaning of the American Flag with the children. Their patriotism was exemplary and went as far as replacing weathered flags whenever seen.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 20 at the Hale Chapel of Buresh Funeral Home, 121 S. Washington. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m., with a Hale Area Veterans walk-through at 7 p.m. Interment will take place in Logan Township Cemetery. All memorials in lieu of flowers can be given in honor or memory to the Paralyzed Vietnam Veterans, Hospice of Helping Hands or the Shriners Crippled Children.
