James Leo West, age 82, of Oscoda, formerly of Grand Blanc, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born in Flint on July 17, 1931 to the late Leo and Marguerite West (nee Manausa). James graduated from Flint Tech in 1949 and went on to join the Navy in 1952.
He married the love of his life, Delphine Purzycki, on Jan. 16, 1960. James retired from Parts Plant General Motors in Swartz Creek. He enjoyed golfing, playing pool and was a huge Tigers fan. James also volunteered at Lake View Manor Nursing Home in Tawas City and served as the treasurer of UPGWA for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Delphine West; daughters, Lisa Marie (Roger) Packard and Laura (Scott Adams) West; brothers, Frank (Pearl) West and Ken West; grandchildren, Fawn (Matt) Phillips and Roger (Katherine) Packard IV; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Donna West.
A memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; the date and time are still being determined. Memorial contributions can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and condolences may be offered at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
