Jane Adeline Hamlyn Norwood, of East Tawas went to be with our loving Lord on Dec. 22, 2012.
Jane was born March 31, 1929 to John and Lucy Opal Hodges Hamlyn in Center Point, Texas. Jane finished grade school and high school in Center Point and continued her education attending North Texas State Teachers College, known now as University of North Texas. A 1 1/2 year later she met the love of her life Maloy Jeremiah (Jerry) Norwood, who was in the Army Air Corp and stationed at Randolph Field, TX., where he taught at the school of aviation medicine. They married March 27th, 1948. For 25 years they were stationed all over the U.S. and even at Goose Bay, Labordor. Jane worked at the Commissaries and Base exchanges during Jerry's military career.
After Jerry's death Jane went back to work at Ben Franklin's until she was eligible for Social Security and then enjoyed the good life. Jane did a lot of traveling to Texas visiting family and spent the winter months in Virginia with her oldest daughter and husband.
Jane was involved as a Red Cross volunteer, volunteer at the Tawas Hospital. She was a life time member of Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron, Chaplain and held several of the Star Point stations. She was a member of the Tawas United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, worked in the Library, worked with the FISH program, and belonged to the Women's Unit of Methodist Church Society.
Anyone that knew Jane experienced the loving sweet soft spoken, precious Texas Rose that she was. Jane loved to cook for her loved ones and friends. Her love was for her family and enjoyed being involved with her childrens and grandchildrens school and outside activities. She loved to sew, travel, play the piano, sing, read and volunteered her time to others in the time of need. Jane's strong devotion to her faith was her spiritual guide through her 83 years of life.
Jane was preceded in death by Jerry Norwood (husband), Randy Norwood (son), John Hamlyn (father), Lucy Opal Hamlyn (mother), Mary Louise Garrett (sister), John Harold Hamlyn (brother), Robert Ernest Hamlyn (brother).
Surviving are three children, Karen (Donald) Zeiders of East Tawas, Lisa Beth (Jim) Smith of Tawas City and Gary Norwood (David Enos - husband) of San Francisco, CA. Four grandchildren, Jeremy (Amber) Norwood of Concord, MI., Jason (Devin) Norwood of Southfield, MI., Vanessa (Matt) Maxfield of East Tawas and Brianna (Blake) Lockwood of St. Mary's, GA. One brother, Hugh Walter (Jane) Hamlyn, eleven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday Dec. 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. and Eastern Star service at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. The funeral service will be held on Friday Dec. 28th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:00 a.m. at Tawas United Methodist Church.
