John Finley Tait, 86, of Dearborn died on Nov. 29, 2012, in Dearborn.
John was born Aug. 31, 1926, to George H. and Anna L. (nee MacDonald) Tait in Birmingham. Along with his father and brother, Ron, John worked for the Detroit News for 25 years as a flyman, journeyman pressman, then production manager for the News and Free Press. In 1978, he moved on to Stone-Consolidated Corp. in Chicago until his retirement in 1995.
Mr. Tait is a graduate of Catholic Central, Wayne State University in Detroit and Illinois Benedictine in Lisle, Ill.
John married Ruth Elizabeth Parkilla on April 1, 1948, at Sacred­ Heart Church in Dearborn. Ruth passed away in May 1995. They raised their 10 children in Dearborn and Bloomfield Hills and Downers Grove, Ill. The couple also resided in Oscoda, Green Valley, Ariz., and Indianapolis, Ind.
Mr. Tait spent his retirement years traveling and with his family. He was the founding member and commodore of the Green Valley Yacht Club. His flag has been retired to Boston, Mass.
Mr. Tait is survived by three daughters, Anne Elizabeth Tait, Patricia Kowalczyk and Barbara (Mark) Cataldo; seven sons, George F. Tait, John J. Tait, Douglas D. (Jayne) Tait, Robert A. (Joy) Tait, William R. (Joyce) Tait, Steven P. (Mary) Tait, Michael A. (Susan) Tait; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Anna Tait.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; two sisters, Barbara Tait and Mary Guimond; and one brother, George "Ronnie" Tait.
Funeral was held Dec. 2, followed by interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oscoda.
