Justus Ashmore of East Tawas passed away peacefully Thursday, July 4, 2013 at his home under the loving care of his family and hospice, age 88 years.

Justus was born on Oct. 26, 1924 in Huron County to William and Helen (Herrington) Ashmore. He proudly served our country during World War II in the United States Army. He owned and operated Ashmore Plumbing and Heating in Tawas as a master plumber for many years, retiring in 1986.
Justus was very involved in the Tawas community. He was an active member of the East Tawas American Legion, Eastern Star, Amaranth, DAV, Masonic Lodge and Consistory and the Odd Fellows. He was also an active member of Tawas United Methodist Church.
Justus is survived by his five children, Dennis Ashmore of Baytown, Texas, Rickey Ashmore of East Tawas, Bonnie Byrd of Universal City, Texas, Linda Brussel of Greenville and Debra Dutton of Saginaw; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one brother, John (Katherine) Ashmore of Mayville; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Justus was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; one grandson, Michael Brussel; one great grandson, Andrew Brussel; five brothers, Clarence, Charlie, Theodore, William and Samuel Ashmore; one sister, Lulu Kozan; and his parents, William and Helen Ashmore.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. A Masonic service will take place that evening at 7 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 9 at 11 a.m. at Tawas United Methodist Church with Reverend Dan Gonder officiating. His family will welcome friends at the church on Tuesday for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Interment with full military honors will take place in the American Legion Cemetery in East Tawas.
