Dr. Michael Saunders Richardson, age 73, passed to Heaven on March 21, 2014 in The Villages, Florida.
He was surrounded in love by his wife, Jeri-Lynne, and children. Mike was a lifetime resident of Oscoda, where he practiced dentistry with extraordinary love and care for 45 years. He was a 1966 graduate of the University of Michigan Dental School. Mike was committed to bringing cutting edge dental care to his regional practice, and dedicated himself to a lifetime of professional learning.
Mike was an incredible husband and father. He and Jeri-Lynne celebrated their golden anniversary in 2012. They were married 51 years and were blessed with three children. He loved the company of his family. His garden, pond, and vast woods were his favorite places. Mike was happiest walking in the woods where he saw God's fingerprints on every plant and animal that he seemed to know by name. Barefoot in the garden brought him great peace.
Mike was actively involved in his church. He was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council, and was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. His deep faith in Christ was rooted in his love of the Holy Eucharist.
He loved Oscoda and was a strong community supporter. He was a founding member of the Oscoda Rotary Club and actively supported its youth foreign exchange program; was a board member of the Oscoda Area Schools Board of Education and the Oscoda Area Chamber of Commerce; supported Michigan Youth Services to assist at-risk youth; helped re-establish the AuSable River Canoe Marathon; and cared for others as a board member of Alcona Health Services.
More than anything, Mike generously and very quietly shared his love and resources with others, supporting friends and strangers equally and with great dignity. He embraced those who most needed love and mentored those who sought his direction. He demonstrated deep respect for each and every person that crossed his path.
Dr. Richardson is survived by his wife, Jeri-Lynne; his brother, Anthony Richardson; his children, Lisa (Patrick) McClelland, Melissa (James) Hiner and Robert (Kammie) Richardson; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dean Richardson; and mother, Lucille Ione Richardson.
A memorial service will be held in Oscoda in late spring. Memories can be shared at www.hiers-baxley.com.
Mike was a huge supporter of Oscoda Area Schools. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Oscoda Education Opportunity Foundation.
