Ruth Catharine (nee Lickert, McKay) Clarke passed away peacefully in Oscoda at the home of her only son Craig Clarke on Saturday, March 8, 2014.

She was born to John and Louise (nee Stead) Lickert in Hersey on Nov. 14, 1920 and was adopted by George and Alice McKay at the age of 3. Ruth married Herbert Lowe Clarke of Boston, Mass. on Sept. 7, 1945 while they were both serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
After the war the couple moved into the old school house where Ruth attended grade school just down the road from her childhood home in Hersey. She remained there until recently. She loved her family dearly and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Ruth graduated from Hersey High School, worked as a waitress at the Osceola Inn in Reed City for many years, was an avid gardener, an awesome cook and loved to travel.
Ruth was preceded in death by both sets of parents; her husband; three sisters, Ethel Moore, Betty Gingrich and Silvia Brown; one brother, Donald Licket; and three adopted brothers, Malcomb, Sterling and Cameron McKay.
She is survived by and will be missed by her children Craig (Peggy) Clarke, Deborah (Steve) Richardson-Lowery of Reed City and Karen (Dick) Griffith of Apopka, Fla.
She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Scott (Sheri) Clarke of Dansville, Sean (Jennifer) Clarke of Oscoda Chris Richardson of Oologah, Okla., Kevin (Marisa) Richardson of Lincoln, Neb., Matt Richardson of Midland, Robbie Griffith of Singapore and Sandy (Mauricio) Chacon of Lake Mary, Fla. and three step-grandchildren Jennifer (Mike) Kampter of Big Rapids, Abby Shoemaker of Hersey, and Melissa (Trent) Anderson of Comstock Park. She will be sadly missed by her 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place on Friday, March 14, from 3-6 p.m. and Saturday, March 15, from 10-11 a.m. at the Pruitt Livingston Funeral Home in Reed City. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ed Raby officiating. There will be a luncheon after the service at the Hersey Congregational Church.
