Charles "Chuck" Cecil Boyd, age 83, of East Tawas passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at Bortz Health Center in Rose City after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Chuck was born in Hartshorne, Okla. on Nov. 2, 1929. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1947. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. His unit was captured and Chuck spent two and a half years in a prisoner of war camp until the end of the war in 1953.
Chuck married Barbara Boyd (Balow) on Nov. 7, 1953. They were married 59 years.
Chuck and Barbara ran Boyd's Resort, a half-mile north of the AuSable River on M-65 for more than 30 years. Chuck also worked for Oscoda Area Schools for 30 years and retired in 1988.
Chuck was a kind and generous soul and his warm sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. He loved Country and Western music and was an avid Michigan, Tigers and Lions fan.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Barbara; brother, George (Phyllis) Boyd; son, Charles (Turi) Boyd; daughter, Ruth (Bob) Bingle; six grandchildren, William (Ayla) Boyd, Scott Boyd, Tom Boyd, Philip Boyd, Bobby (Amanda) Bingle and Chrissy (Jeff) Mertz; and many nieces and nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Pauline Boyd; sister, Marge Swarthout; and brother, William Boyd.
At Chuck's request, there will not be a service. The family is planning private memorial this summer to allow many out of town family members to attend.
